Sunny Smith

ACTING INSTRUCTOR

Sunny Smith is the Theatre Department Chair and the Acting Instructor for the VPA Program at Booker High School. Sunny has been teaching acting at Booker High School VPA Theatre since 2015 and is a Florida-based actor, singer and director. Originally from Wisconsin, she moved to California to pursue her acting career and to further her education. She graduated from San Diego State University with a BA in Theatre Performance, holds an acting certificate from the British American Drama Academy in Oxford, England, and earned an MFA in Acting from the University of Florida while also working as a teaching fellow.

She is the co-owner of a small independent film company, Jabronie Pictures, a former education board member and teacher at North Coast Repertory Theatre’s Theatre School and former Associate Artistic Director with Compass Theatre and Plutonium Theatre, all in San Diego. Sunny has been seen in commercials throughout Wisconsin, Florida, California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington and in nationwide web-commercials, as well as working as a voiceover artist for the last 12 years.

Sunny has been in multiple independent films selected for film festivals, such as the San Diego Asian Film Festival, Sarasota Film Festival, and the Action on Film International Film Festival in Pasadena, where she was nominated for Female Action Performer of the Year. She has enjoyed being on professional stages, performing at such theatres as the La Jolla Playhouse, North Coast Rep, New Village Arts, Ion Theatre, San Diego Lyric Opera, Florida Studio Theatre and Urbanite Theatre. She is excited to continue exploring the Florida acting and directing scene, working on new projects and teaching and directing at BHS.
