John Timpe

FILM & ANIMATION INSTRUCTOR

John Timpe is the Film & Animation Instructor for the VPA Program at Booker High School. John teaches film, storytelling and screenplay writing in the VPA’s Film & Animation program. Before arriving at Booker High in 2017, Timpe taught in the Communication Department at the University of North Florida (Jacksonville, Florida) and served as the student media adviser, including instruction in videography, editing, photography, and story.

He wrote and edited long-form narrative for 15 years, including as part of a Pulitzer Prize-winning package at the Tampa Bay Times. His work there included production on the 10-minute documentary in the project, and that film won an Emmy. He earned his degree in Mass Communication at the University of Colorado-Boulder, and he studied film under renowned experimental film director Stan Brakhage.

Timpe also reported for the New York Times bestselling book “Under the Tarnished Dome” and consulted on “The Leper Spy.”
