Greg Rumph

ASSISTANT PRINIPAL

Gregory Rumph, is a veteran administrator currently serving at Booker High School overseeing the Visual and Performing Arts program under Dr. Rachel Shelley. Greg holds two masters’ degrees from the University of South Florida, Educational Leadership and Reading Education. He also earned a bachelors’ degree in Illustration from the prestigious Ringling College of Art and Design as he is also prolific artist. As one of the few black male educators in Sarasota County, he has always strived to impart wisdom, high expectations, and creativity to his professional endeavors. During his 15 plus years in the classroom, Rumph started the graphic design program in the Booker Middle School Visual and Performing Arts magnet program. He also underwent the arduous process of becoming a National Board-Certified Teacher. Aside from his art-based contributions, Rumph was instrumental in developing campus-wide vocabulary and reading initiatives. After his time in the classroom, Rumph journeyed to Manatee County, serving as an administrative dean at Southeast High School. Two years was time enough to ready him for the assignment of becoming an assistant principal at Sarasota High School, high alma mater. He was based there for two before getting the call to serve at Riverview High School for three years before finally landing at his current assignment, Booker High School. This is second year at the Newtown neighborhood school. Greg is charged to build upon the extraordinary reputation and contributions of the VPA program highlighted by Booker’s new state-of-art community theater slated to be ready late 2023.

As an artist, Rumph has developed into a prolific and multi-faceted artist. Greg designed logos for the Sarasota Housing Authority, Bethlehem Bible Baptist Church, Phatheadz Barbershop, Truevine Missionary Baptist Church, the Booker Schools and many others. As an illustrator and fine artist, Rumph has two paintings in the permanent collection of the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis Tennessee, also his work can be found in many private collections around the country. Currently, Greg is working a series of jazz musicians and four paintings based on the Nina Simone song, Four Women. His work has been featured in Sarasota Magazine, the Herald Tribune, Savoy Magazine and others. His work was also recently featured on the PBS show, Arts Plus.

Greg is happily married to wife Tenia, they share a son Gregory “Noah”, and three bonus adult children, Phillip, Marcus and Leah.
