Rebecca Abrahamson


An alumna of the Booker High School VPA Theatre Program, Rebecca Abrahamson is entering her 17th year on the Booker High School faculty. Throughout her tenure, she has served as the department chair of the VPA TV & Film Department, VPA Coordinator, and Cambridge AICE General Paper teacher, among other roles. Ms. Abrahamson has received many honors in education, including twice earning the FLDOE Florida State High Impact Teacher and being named the Booker High School Teacher of the Year for the 2017-18 school year. Her students likewise have received several distinctions, including the AICE General Paper “Top in the World” honor for earning the highest score globally and many other awards for their work in film.

Ms. Abrahamson graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Florida State University, having also completed the FSU Honors and Scholars Program, and went on to earn her master’s degree in Mass Communications from the University of Florida. In addition to her tenure at BHS, she also taught journalism and communications at Manatee Community College (now the State College of Florida), where she served as the adviser for their award-winning newspaper, The Lance.  She has written for several publications, including The Gainesville Sun, The Sarasota Herald-Tribune, and West Coast Woman, and Tempo News.
